Houston has very low unemployment (around 3%) and in recent years has had more new jobs than any other city in the U.S.! After New York City, we have the highest number of Fortune 500 companies located in our city.Β

Texas has no income tax! The average tax collected from each resident in a year is $3,500, which is pretty incredible compared to other states.Β

We have an amazing international food scene with something for everyone. But beyond that, our community is full of diverse people. Almost half of the city speaks a language other than English at home, and weβre now more diverse than NYC. Itβs an atmosphere like no other with a mix of influences and traditions from around the world.Β

As a parent, this one is really important to me. We have so many teachers in our school systems that love their kids like their own and have been in the same district for years and years! Parents seem to be really involved, and that makes for a genuine sense of community here. Houston, Katy, and Cypress show how education should be!Β

A visit to the Museum of Fine Arts is always a fun experience or for something more modern, the Menil Drawing Institute has beautiful displays and new events each month. And when it comes to performance art, thereβs the Houston Theater District and all of the great minds collaborating there and outside of that, the recently expanded Stages Theatre!Β

Quality of life is a big reason most Texans stay in Texas and why everyone else wants to move here! Our cost of living is close to the national average and far below the average for most big cities. The median household income is actually above average, and this combined with the home prices makes being a homeowner something attainable for almost everyone.Β

This year weβre about to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the livestock show and rodeo, which is always a wonderful time for the whole family.Β

Everythingβs bigger in Texas applies to our healthcare too! Our city is home to the largest concentration of healthcare organizations in the world.Β

International astronauts still train here for their space missions! Itβs pretty special to be home to NASA and learn about the history of space exploration at the Space Center exhibits.Β

Iβll be honest, Iβm not originally from Houstonβ¦and yet the community has embraced my family and me completely. Itβs hard to go into a public place and not stop multiple times to have good quality conversations with people that actually care how you are doing. Around here when someone asks you how your day is going, they actually mean it. I love the sense of community here.
Β In conclusion, itβs no surprise to me why so many people want to live here. Itβs our little slice of Heaven on Earth.Β
